Phar Lap's 1930 Melbourne Cup

THE CHALLENGE

Wrights worked with the Victoria Racing Club to launch the third volume of its History of Thoroughbred Racing.

During the research of the book, the VRC uncovered one of Australian racings biggest mysteries, the whereabouts of Phar Laps missing 1930 Melbourne Cup trophy.

This discovery provided Wrights with the opportunity to transform a racing-focused book launch into a nationwide news story.

WHAT WE DID

In order to attract widespread interest in the launch, Wrights needed to develop a public relations strategy that used the discovery of Phar Lap’s missing Melbourne Cup as the hook to attract media interest and gain coverage for the new book.

Wrights worked with the VRC to stage a media and stakeholder event to launch the book and reveal the ‘big news’.
